Work Packages

Goals

The overarching goal of CoastMan is to assist management decisions of mangrove-based socio-ecological systems at local, regional, and international levels within coastal Africa. Based on this goal, we Mapped the theory of change framework by mapping backwards- from the expected impacts, medium to long-term outcomes, then Project direct results (i.e., outputs), and activities represented by Work Packages (WPs), that are required to achieve each output.

Likelihood and beneficiaries of the expected change

Outputs and intermediate outcomes are expected to occur with high Likelihood, while the Socio-economic and Environmental impacts are given a low to medium likelihood: The intermediate outcomes and the scientific impacts have medium to high likelihood. The expected change will affect primarily- the local coastal population and the vulnerable communities, the scientific community, local national and regional decision makers, as well as the coastal environment.

Structure

Addressing the identified risks to climate change and the overarching goal presents a significant conceptual complexity to project implementation. To reduce the conceptual complexity, we sub-divided the concept into six technical Work Packages (WPs) and a project management Work Package (WP7).
