WP6 – Co-production and Dissemination

Lead: UD; Other partners: all consortium members

Objective

To co-produce research outputs with vulnerable groups and effectively communicate and disseminate outcomes to relevant stakeholders. We identified three groups of users:

  1. Vulnerable coastal communities as defined in the project overview
  2. extension workers and local, regional and national authorities
  3. International scientific communities and development organizations.

We devote WP6 to science communication, research outputs, and uptake.

Outputs

Output 6.1: Reverse Integrated Workshops (RIW)
Rather than extract ideas and opinion from local communities for stakeholder workshops, communities will be central to knowledge exchange as experts. In close collaboration with WP5, mangrove-science workshops will be organised by the research team, in collaboration with the youth CoastMan team (WP2) to share results and discuss findings and potential solutions/barriers. From this the youth CoastMan team and project team will develop a community-led workshop where key stakeholders from the respective countries will be invited into communities to participate, exchange and learn. Community-developed solutions and challenges will be discussed with invited influential stakeholders.

Output 6.2 Dissemination activities
Following completion of the CoastMan DSS (5.2) and RIW (6.1), national level workshops will be held to disseminate findings to key stakeholders in Dar es Salaam and Accra. Project members from relevant WPs will be present and a final printed report will be distributed. A webinar will be hosted by Dundee, to widely disseminate the findings among key national and international stakeholders, to discuss between contrasting study contexts and consider how recommendations may apply to other mangrove dependent communities/nations. Project team members will also present results at relevant regional and international conferences. We disseminate outputs in occasions such as the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem” celebrated each year on July 26th. UBC will set up a dedicated webpage for the project in cooperation with the University IT department. The webpage will be linked to other partner institutions and will be populated and promoted by consortium members.
